CHAPTER OVERVIEW
Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass. One can see, smell, feel, or touch matter everywhere.
In this chapter, the pupils will learn about the different kinds of matter and their characteristics. They will also be able to distinguish solids, liquids, and gases based on these characteristics. Understanding about matter will help the pupils know and appreciate the things that they see around them and use every day.

DESIRED RESULTS
Content Standard/s
The learners demonstrate understanding of
• ways of sorting materials and describing them as solid, liquid, or gas based on observable properties; and
• the three states of matter and their characteristics.

Performance Standard/s
The learners should be able to group common objects found at home or in school according to solids, liquids, and gases.
Chapter Objectives
At the end of the chapter, the pupils are expected to
• state the characteristics of matter;
• classify objects as solids, liquids, or gases;
• observe the similarities and differences of solids, liquids, and gases; and
• distinguish the different kinds of matter based on their characteristics.
