Show to the class a picture of a baby Philippine eagle. Say: This is a baby Philippine eagle. Many years ago, there were at least 6000 Philippine eagles that roamed around the Philippine islands. Now there are only 350 to 500 Philippine eagles in Mindanao, and they continue to become lesser and lesser. This eagle has become an endangered species.

Invite the pupils to look at the picture of a Philippine eagle on page 37 of the worktext. Then read Getting Ready to them. Have them give guesses to the question: Why are the eagles considered endangered species? Write several guesses on the board.
